Cone Formulas

Slant Height: l = √(r² + h²)

Volume: V = (1/3) × π × r² × h

Base Area: A_base = π × r²

Lateral Surface Area: LSA = π × r × l

Total Surface Area: TSA = π × r × (r + l)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the slant height?
The slant height is the distance from the apex (tip) of the cone to any point on the edge of the base, measured along the surface. It is calculated using Pythagoras: l = √(r² + h²).

How does a cone's volume compare to a cylinder?
A cone has exactly one-third the volume of a cylinder with the same base radius and height. This is why the cone formula is (1/3)πr²h.
