To add fractions with different denominators: find the lowest common denominator (LCD), convert both fractions to that denominator, then add the numerators. The calculator does all of this automatically and shows the working.
Multiplying fractions is the simplest operation: multiply the numerators together, then multiply the denominators together. Then simplify the result. Example: 2/3 × 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2.
What does simplify mean?
Simplifying (or reducing) a fraction means dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD) until no further division is possible. Example: 6/12 simplifies to 1/2.
What is a mixed number?
A mixed number combines a whole number and a proper fraction. Example: 7/4 = 1¾. The calculator shows the mixed number form when the result is an improper fraction.
